Disney Does David: Bringing the Biblical King to Broadway
When the curtain opens on "King David" at New York's New Amsterdam Theatre, composer Alan Menken will be standing in the wings with both pride and trepidation. The performance, described by Mr. Menken as a "pop oratorio," is somewhat of a departure for the composer, who is best known for his scores for animated Disney features such as "Hunchback of Notre Dame," "Pocahontas" (which won two Oscars and one Golden Globe for Best Song), "Aladdin" (two Oscars and two Golden Globes for Best Score and Best Song), "The Little Mermaid" (two Oscars and two Golden Globes) and "Beauty and the Beast" (two more Oscars)....
