Apollo Theater: The Center Of Controversy
The Apollo Theatre, one of the most legendary landmarks in New York City, desperately needs repairs and in infusion of capital before it collapses fiscally and physically.
Despite its poor condition and recent lack of profitability, the theatre my soon see a revitalization and a return to greatness.
The state of the Apollo theatre has attracted the attention of New York Attorney General Dennis Vacco. He initiated an investigation during May of the non-profit organization, the Apollo Theatre Foundation, after reports that never collected $4.4 million owed to the theatre by Percy Sutton's Inner City Broadcasting, the producers of "It's Showtime at the Apollo."
Recently, the investigation has also handed out subpoenas to all 11 board members to see if any of them had pressured the African Heritage Network into dropping a bid to run the late-night show "Showtime" so that Sutton's Inner City Broadcasting can keep the rights to produce the show.
