Jamaica Action Plan Results In Quality Of Life Improvements For Queens Residents
On Wednesday, August 6, at a press conference held at Baisley Pond Park in Queens and attended by Rev. Congressman Floyd H. Flake, Queens Borough president Claire Shulman, Deputy Mayor Rudy Washington, Councilman Tom White, city officials, and local community and business leaders, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani reported that the Jamaica Action Plan has dramatically improved the quality of life for residents of Jamaica, N.Y. The Baisley Pond Park was recently renovated under the Action Plan.
The Jamaica Action Plan is a coordinated multi-agency initiative and it has brought many improvements to the Jamaica section of Queens including lower crime, new housing, cleaner and refurbished park and increased economic activity.
"It's great to be in Queens today, to celebrate the accomplishments of the Jamaica Action Plan," said Mayor Giuliani. "Approximately $510M in public and private investment has been earmarked for economic development, housing and infrastructure which have led to the revitalization of commercial, industrial and residential activities in this area. Today, Jamaica is cleaner, safer and brighter thanks to the hard work of Borough President Shulman, Reverend Congressman H. Flake, Councilman White and the various Commissioners and community leaders who have worked hard to make Jamaica a great place to live."
"As a person who is vitally concerned about community re-investment and development, I am impressed by the coordinated efforts by Mayor Giuliani and his administration who have brought a focused approach to improving the quality of life in Jamaica," said Congressman Flake. "This is an excellent beginning and I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Jamaica as we make it a model community."
