Governor Signs Law Preserving Alexander Hamilton's Home
Governor George E. Pataki announced he has signed into law legislation that will help preserve The Grange, the historic home of the United States' first secretary of the treasury, Alexander Hamilton.
The law, which is effective immediately, allows the City of New York to grant easements over a portion of St. Nicholas Park in Manhattan to the National Park Service (NPS) for use as a site for the Hamilton Grange National Memorial.
"As the home of one of our nation's founding fathers, The Grange is an important historic site that should be preserved for future generations," Governor Pataki said. "Alexander Hamilton was a great patriot and a great New Yorker who fought for our freedoms during the Revolutionary War and later exerted a great influence in the shaping of our government.
