Jamaica Community Board Holds Hearing On JFK Rail System
The JFK airport Light Rail System to Jamaica Center "is both an efficient stand-alone system in itself and a first step toward an ambitious overall system, which is underway incrementally, and which will have enormous benefits for Queens," Carlisle Towery, president of Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, testified on Jan. 5.
Speaking at a Community Board 9 hearing on the LRS, called AirTrain, Towery stressed the economic benefits of the system to JFK, Queens and the City, and acknowledged the problems construction will temporarily bring to residents along the Van Wyck Expressway.
