Francis Lewis High School 1997 Moot Court Champions
On December 4, 1997, the members of the Francis Lewis High School Moot Court Team walked into the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the States of New York as Moot Court Finalists. Later that afternoon, they walked out as champions. Francis Lewis High School won the final round of the Thirteenth Annual Metropolitan Mentor Moot Court Competition.
In the Mentor Moot Court program, students act as appeals court lawyers. Each oralist is allotted ten minutes to make his/her argument and during that time is questioned by the judge as would be done in actual appellate court proceedings. The students are judged on their overall persuasiveness, ability to respond to questions, knowledge of case law, clarity of arguments, poise and appearance.
