As a freshman at Dubuque Hempstead High School, Erin Eitter was tagged for her art and academic potential and mentored throughout high school.
Eitter - now Erin Eitter Kono - will have illustrations from her children's book, "Hula Lullaby," on exhibit at the Dubuque Museum of Art this summer.
Eitter, 35, lives in Redondo Beach, Calif., with her husband and 2-year-old daughter.
In a phone interview, she said that art teachers at Hempstead - notably Ron Hahlen - picked a few kids each year and helped them build art portfolios.
