Kids' Choices Clearly Cool.
Saturday, May 20, was without a doubt the day kids ruled. That was the afternoon and evening when Nickelodeon, the only network just for kids, and Whitney Houston hosted the network's "8th Annual Kids' Choice Awards," the only award celebration that gives kids the power to choose their favorites from movies, television, music and sports, live from Los Angeles. The hour-and-a half-long show featured big name presenters, celebrity honorees and performances by top musical talent cheered on by a kid-packed audience. The fun show was taped at The Barker Hangar at The Santa Monica Air Center in Santa Monica.
For sure, kid power ruled, but to their credit and apart from their bigger and more mature counterparts, African Americans were percentage-wise well-represented. It seems as tough kids are color blind.
Award-winning recording artist and actress Whitney Houston said prior to hosting the show, "Since movie stars have the Academy Awards and television stars have the Emmy Awards - it is only fitting that kids should have an awards show that they can call their very own. Receiving a Kids' Choice Award last year, I was thrilled to know that kids enjoyed my work; and I am looking forward to being a part of the fun at Nickelodeon's `8th Annual Kids' Choice Awards.'"
More than 26 million kids across the country voted for their favorite celebrities during the six-week on air voting campaign.
