Is Hammer's Latest 'Too Legit' to Market via Black Press?.
Capitol Records has pulled out all the stops in their market scheme to promote Hammer's new blockbuster album, "Too Legit to Quit."
Well--almost all the stops. The multi-million dollar promotional gravy train, up to now, has bypassed a most significant stop, the African-American press. And attempts to get explanations from Capitol's marketing and advertising people are turning into a scene resembling a Thomas Nast cartoon.
An estimated 2.5 million copies of Hammer's new album went on sale last week, buttressed by a flurry of advertising and publicity. According to the New York Times, Capitol Records has spent $1.5 million on television...
