CHEYENNE -- After serving almost six years in the U.S. Senate, Republican Mike Enzi is running again to bring a "Wyoming work ethic to Washington."
And he's is not out of ideas yet, he said during aJuly 15 interview with the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle Editorial Board.
Enzi said that, as the only accountant in Congress, he has worked to make the country's tax system simpler and more fair to citizens. He successfully audited the Internal Revenue Service itself during his first year in Congress, he said.
He will continue those efforts, he said, as well as many more.
"Education is a top priority," he said.
Health-care improvements also are important, he said, particularly in the prescription drug arena.
"In our state, we're underserved in almost every health profession," Enzi said.
Enzi said the top issues facing Wyoming in this election cycle are education, jobs, national security and retirement security. For Cheyenne specifically, he said, the future of F.E. Warren Air Force Base is vitally important. It has excellent community support, he said.
