JUST nine months after opening, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre has won one of Australia's most prestige business tourism awards.
The centre took out National Event of the Year, at the Meetings and Events Awards ceremony in Perth on Tuesday night, for its spectacular opening dinner on June 29 last year - just two days before the award nomination deadline.
Queensland overall was a big winner, taking 12 of the 19 awards, with the Gold Coast claiming five of those.
GCCEC chief executive officer Adrienne Readings said the title would make the rest of the industry `sit up and take notice'.
