Curtains up for Apollo
Last week, state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer brought down what he hopes is the final curtain in the Apollo Theatre financial debacle. "As it pertains to the attorney general's office, we have reached closure on the matter," Spitzer told the Amsterdam News during a press conference at his office in downtown Manhattan. "We're thrilled to have Ossie Davis aboard and Time Warner and Richard Parsons in position to move things forward.
"This is a wonderful moment. Our involvement in this is over and we're satisfied with the current status."
Spitzer's satisfaction comes about mainly because the stipulations set forth in the agreement, including the restructuring of the Apollo Foundation Board, were resolved.
Davis, the new chairman of the board, said he was pleased with the new developments but made it clear that there had not been enough time to meet with other board members, nor was there an opportunity to talk to Sutton...
