Former Pres. William Jefferson Clinton may hold the distinction of being the very first president of the United States to stand tall on the stage of the world-renowned Apollo Theatre.
However, the prime minister of Jamaica recently made history as the very first Caribbean leader to make a presence at the Harlem landmark. Jamaica is the first English-speaking nation in the Caribbean to rid its people of colonial rule.
Percival James Patterson, on a tour of Harlem, made the show-place his first stop Friday.
"This is not my first time here," the prime minister said after entering the glass doors to the 125th Street theater. "I was here as a patron many, many years ago."
On his first visit as the head of a government, Patterson walked the red carpet, acknowledging some of the talents who had made the small showplace a landmark and internationally acclaimed institution.
