The Apollo, crown jewel of Harlem, gets $725,000 for restoration
The Apollo Theatre in Harlem has been given a new lease on life. Gov. George Pataki ordered the allocation of $725,000 in grants for the historic and famed entertainment complex.
Funding for the landmark theatre had been postponed pending an investigation on financial impropriety by State Attorney Gen. Eliot Spitzer, which was settled recently after the following demands were met: The board of directors was increased from 10 to 22 people; Cong. Charles Rangel was replaced as chairman of the board...
