When Black Issues Book Review publisher and editor-in-chief William E. Cox finalized plans to sell his flagship publication geared toward African American bibliophiles in March, it was a somewhat bittersweet departure. The magazine was a first of its kind; was named one of the Ten Best New Magazines by the American Library Journal and had a loyal cadre of readers. But advertising dollars the lifeline of every publication - were shrinking.
