HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
The North Catholic Trojans always seem to have one of the smallest rosters in Class AA's Allegheny Conference. They always seem to be a little undersized and trying to overcome heavy graduation losses.
But there has been one constant in the 14 years Dennis Fedigan has been the head coach of the North Catholic football team. Nobody will outwork them.
"Mental toughness!" the coaching staff will shout as the players undergo seemingly endless wind sprints. For a .500 team, it would seem to be just another old football saying. But with the Trojans 2- 0 after losing seven offensive starters -- including 1,400-yard rusher Marty Nasiadka -- from a team that advanced to the WPIAL semifinals last year, it would seem the Trojans' work ethic really is their key to victory.
"We expect to win and that's our work ethic," said Fedigan, whose career record stands at 73-56-3.
"Our goal was to get to the WPIAL championship. In 2000, we were in the quarterfinals. In 2001, we were in the semifinals. I don't know any other way to approach it. I don't know...
