For Lincoln Place's Rob Capozzolo, the International Powerlifting Association Championships represented the end of the road.
For Mt. Lebanon's Dan Kovacs, they might be a way into the world of professional wrestling.
Capozzolo, who runs a barber shop in West Mifflin, won the bench press competition in the 242-pound weight class at the championships, which took place over Halloween weekend in Annapolis, Md. He also won the competition's overall bench press.
Kovacs won the super-heavyweight division with a combined lift of 2,390 pounds, which.,that included a squat lift of 920-lbs., a dead lift of 810 pounds and a bench press of 660 pounds. The combined lift left him short of his goal.
"I did everything I could to demolish the competition," said Kovacs, who started lifting to enhance his football abilities while at Brashear High. "But I didn't do everything I wanted. The record for the combined is 2,531,and I feel I'm capable of getting that. That's one of my goals."
Kovacs, 28, might have reached that goal in October, if not for assorted injuries that limited his training and preparation. The former center on the offensive...
