Boris Frank, the newly named executive director of the Henry Vilas Park Zoological Society, may not have been this excited in 70 years.
Frank, 77, is crazy about the zoo. He loves everything about it. He says there is no better place for families to come, and maybe that's why 750,000 people will stroll through the gates of the Vilas Zoo this year.
Frank likes standing there and seeing three generations of a family arrive with a smile on every face. He sees his new gig at the zoo as the capstone of "an amazing life" that began in Hollywood, when his father worked in the movies.
You want excitement? One day his dad took Boris to visit Ginger Rogers. The 7-year-old had never heard of the actress, but she had a soda fountain next to the swimming pool outside her home and Boris was set loose to make himself a sundae.
"She was an ice cream freak," Frank was recalling Wednesday.
