Mary Ellen Smoot has traveled to India, Russia, Nigeria, Japan, Guate mala and a host of other countries as a leader of 4.2 million Mormon women worldwide.
On Sunday, Smoot came to Spokane. More than a thousand women from the Inland Northwest turned out to see her at the Spokane Stake Center on the South Hill.
Smoot is president of the Relief Society, an organization of Mormon women founded in 1842. It is one of the largest women's organizations on the planet. There are roughly 9,000 members in the Eastern Washington and North Idaho region alone.
