Commentary
Correction published June 6, 2000 - George E. Curry, whose job as editor of Emerge was eliminated when publication of the magazine was suspended last week, is a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala. An incorrect birthplace is listed in this commentary.
The story of David and Goliath tells the tale of an underdog who slew a giant. Last week, a different giant exacted revenge in a simple press release:
"Vanguarde Media Inc. Chairman and CEO Keith Clinkscales announced today that VMI is placing Emerge Magazine on hiatus, effective immediately. ... Positions were eliminated in conjunction with the move."
One of those positions was editor, held by St. Louis...
