Authorities have removed more than 100 children from the Heartland Christian Academy in response to a new allegation of child abuse.
The residential school, situated in rural northeast Missouri, provides education and work-therapy for troubled youths.
Heartland officials confirmed in a statement Wednesday that 115 children were removed Tuesday afternoon.
Buses transported the children to a juvenile center in nearby Kirksville, Mo. Chief juvenile officer Mike Waddell could not be reached for comment. It was not clear if the children were kept at the center or had been released to their parents.
The removal was apparently unrelated to a case in June in which five Heartland workers were charged with child abuse. As a form of punishment, the workers had been forcing misbehaving...
