When Ryan Roberts runs out onto the field at Notre Dame Stadium for the last time, Nov. 23 against Rutgers, that will likely be the moment of his college career that sticks with him later in life.
Not so much the wins or the losses, the successes or the setbacks. In five years, Roberts has seen it all. But soon it will be over and in the end, he will take with him that one final moment when he emerges from the tunnel.
"It's going be something I'm going talk about for years and years," Roberts said. "That's what the old guys who come back, that's all they ever talk about, how they wish they could do it again.
"And when they come and see us, big 300-pound men getting teary- eyed, it's funny, but I know that's what I'm going to be like in a couple of years when I come back and see the younger guys."
The 6-foot-2, 258-pound defensive end has been an anchor for the Notre Dame defense this year, ranking first on the team with seven quarterback sacks through nine games. He got off to a similar start last year with five sacks before a knee injury against Tennessee abruptly ended his season in early November.
