Tom McCarthy, whose recent problems have included injuries and tardiness, will be troubled in Minnesota no longer. After months of trying, the North Stars traded McCarthy Monday, sending him to Boston for second- and third-round draft picks the next two years.
The Bruins, in desperate need of a left wing, have control of the picks. If Boston decides to give the North Stars the third-round pick this year, the Stars will receive the second-round choice in 1987 and vice versa. Minnesota cannot have the picks in the same year.
North Stars general manager Lou Nanne has been trying to unload McCarthy since mid-February, when McCarthy, a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder, was late in preparing for three practices in six days.
