The title of 311's latest album, "From Chaos," doesn't reflect what is happening on the band's sixth studio disc.
The Los Angeles-based eclectic rock outfit has never been so focused. The heavier rock tunes, which are driven by Tim Mahoney's muscular riffing, are precise and immediate. The surf guitar and jungle beats mesh perfectly. Even the band's first attempt at ska, "I'll Be Here Awhile," rings true.
The name of the release was inspired by the legal trouble the group had with its former label, Capricorn Records. After spending seven acrimonious years with the independent company, 311 sued Capricorn to void its deal.
