Of all the renovations the Jets have undergone since Bill Parcells' arrival, one thing they didn't think of was installing a turnstile at the front door. They could have used it Monday, when four veterans were released and five players joined the club in a whirlwind of activity one day after final cutdown day and six days before the start of the regular season at Seattle.
"It's been hectic," said one front-office employee. By the end of the day, the contracts of eighth-year running back Reggie Cobb and 13th-year punter Brian Hansen were terminated, John Hall regained sole possession of the placekicking job after Joe Nedney was waived, and two contributors to Parcells' Super Bowl march with New England - safety-special-teamer Corwin Brown and tight end John Burke - were reunited with their former coach.
Parcells was not available for comment, but the day before he predicted Monday would be "rather unsettled." He was right.
