Leslie Merritt is proud of his work as state auditor and hopes the citizens of North Carolina will elect him to a second term.
I think in the first term we have made tremendous impact, he said. I thought it needed different leadership, and I think we have done that.
Merritt was raised in rural Eastern North Carolina, where his family owned a farm. He earned degrees in economics and accounting from North Carolina State University. After college, he and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Zebulon.
Merritt founded an accounting and auditing firm, where he audited public entities such as schools and local governments.
Before being elected state auditor, Merritt served on the Wake County Board of Commissioners.
