MOORESTOWN, N.J., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Two U.S. Navy Aegis- equipped cruisers this past week successfully detected and engaged five "hostile" test targets, verifying the performance of the ships' upgraded Aegis weapon system -- designated Baseline 6 Phase 1 by the U.S. Navy and the system's manufacturer, Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems-Moorestown.
The tests were performed on May 17 to 21 at the Atlantic Fleet Weapons Test Facility near Puerto Rico and included the USS Hue City (CG 66) and USS Vicksburg (CG 69). The missile firings were part of the ongoing preparations for the Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) Technical Evaluation/Operational Evaluation tests scheduled for February and May, 2001 respectively. The Baseline 2.0 CEC System is integrated with the Baseline 6 Phase 1 Aegis System.
