Text of report entitled "Commander of army's naval force reported: Iran's light submarines to be equipped with special weaponry and special teams" published in Iranian newspaper Jomhuri-ye Eslami on 13 December
Admiral Sayyari has said that Iran's Ghadir-class submarines are equipped with special weapons and special operations teams that can be landed where necessary for operations, Fars agency reported.
Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, commander of the army's naval force commented on measures taken to safeguard Iran's share of the Caspian: "In line with the interests we have in the Caspian Sea, the organs in charge have made the necessary forecasts for use of the region under our control. And in line with our duties we must safeguard Iran's 20 per cent-share of the Caspian, which we are doing."
Sayyari said the laws governing closed seas must be entirely clarified by littoral states and a legal regime was being designed by littoral states for the Caspian Sea. He said this law was applicable to semi-closed seas, "for example the Persian Gulf is considered a semi-closed sea...
