YAHUALICA - This pastoral region is famous for its grazing sheep, golden corn fields and maguey plantations. It's also renowned for its excellent chiles and salsas.And it is home to Don Jose Plascencia, 72, who has made it his life's work to add candy to the list of local delicacies.
Don Jose began his career 48 years ago as a young man from the countryside in desperate need of a job. He noticed that there were folks around Yahualica who had a good business selling sweets, and so, despite his lack of knowledge of the candy industry, he decided to give it a try.
