HERE'S the obvious question that arises after previewing the first few episodes of CTV's soapy new drama Whistler:
Why would a Canadian network premiere a show about mountains, skiing, snowboarding and tuques at the time of year when anything snow-related is the last thing most Canucks want to think about?
Couldn't find room in the schedule during the chilly months? Not enough faith in the show to launch it during the official prime-time season? A simple programming brain freeze?
One can't help but wonder.
Whatever the case, Whistler arrives Sunday at 10 p.m. as a weekly drama that hopes to combine the youth-appeal buzz of The O.C. and Falcon Beach with the darkly comic sensibility of Desperate Housewives, using the titular snow-capped Rocky Mountain resort village as the setting for its steamy, sexy scheming and dreaming.
And the truth is that Whistler isn't a half-bad bit of escapist prime-time fare....
