She's a chart-topping charmer of country and pop fans alike, but Taylor Swift still has 'aw, shucks' appeal
Taylor Swift is moving up pretty fast in the music business.
The stats tell the story. Last year, the charming, blond country-pop star was the biggest selling artist in the United States with sales of nearly four million albums: 1.5 million of her 2006 self-titled release and 2.1 million of 2008's Fearless, which debuted at No. 1 and stayed there for 11 weeks. The albums took the top two slots on the year-end Canadian Country Albums chart.
In February, her single Love Story was crowned the all-time paid download champ with more than three million MP3s sold. Her sales success was equalled in the awards realm. She has earned trophies from all the major American country awards shows, including the album of the year and the Crystal Milestone award from the Academy of Country Music.
Not too shabby for a 19-year-old.
Her increasing clout has attracted the attention of the entire industry, including other artists who want to collaborate with her. She has performed with the likes of John Mayer and Def Leppard and even shot a gangsta-rap parody video with T-Pain for the CMT Awards.
She may be the biggest thing...
