James Madison University issued the following news release:
Poets from throughout the United States will gather at James Madison University Sept. 21 to celebrate the life of Lucille Clifton, the award-winning African American poet who died in February.
Date: Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010
Time: 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.)
Location: Wilson Hall Auditorium
The tribute program, "73 Poems for 73 Years: Celebrating the Life of Lucille Clifton," honors the achievements of the woman who earned prestigious awards, including the 2000 National Book Award for Poetry. Clifton's free verse poems explore themes of female identity, family matters, race relations and spirituality.
