SANDWICH -- Thousands of people turned out on a brisk, sunny day for the opening of the 100th annual Sandwich Fair.
The three-day fair, the last of the season in New Hampshire, is a Columbus Day weekend tradition. It is expected to draw about 35,000 people, according to organizers.
Bright fall foliage greeted the crowd, many of whom donned sweatshirts or windbreakers to ward off the early morning chill as they made their way around the fairgrounds, sampling the many kinds of food available, from fried dough and giant doughnuts to sausage grinders, buffalo burgers and bread bowls filled with chowder.
