HARRY White, the jockey who made the Melbourne Cup his own in the 1970s, is selling the farm.
White, 66, is battling multiple sclerosis and is struggling to manage the 200ha Gisborne property.
But that doesn't mean the never-say-die White is giving up. " `Give up' never won a race. If you give up, you'll have no hope. Retirement for me will simply be a change of job," he said.
White teamed with master trainer Bart Cummings to win consecutive Melbourne Cups on Think Big in 1974-75.
He followed up with Arwon (1978) and Hyperno (1979), to etch his name in the record books.
His body may be failing, but White's mind is still sharp.
