FOR more than R100 000 a year, city parents can enrol their children at some of Cape Town's top schools.
Bishops, in Rondebosch, is one of the city's priciest schools. Annual school fees - for tuition only - are R76 220, or R19 055 per term. Combined with boarding fees, the figure rises to R133 060.
The price does include three meals and a laundry service, but in Grade 9, pupils must have their own laptops.
The school, which was one of the province's top 10 schools last year, offers a range of extra-mural activities, including rowing and sailing.
There are 750 boys enrolled in the school this year, which is one of a handful of elite schools in the city where parents spare no expense.
Pupils at these schools will experience month-long outdoor adventures, participate in frequent community service programmes, and have yachting as one of their extra-mural activities.
Most of the schools, however, do offer full or partial bursaries to pupils who excel academically, in sport or arts.
