Forum explores filmmaker's 'Fierce Light'
Filmmaker Velcrow Ripper became intrigued by what Gandhi called satyagraha (Sanskrit for "soul force," "truth force" or "love force") and what Martin Luther King Jr. called "love in action."
So Ripper began a quest to document how people fuse spirituality and activism. Ripper's search led him to interview Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, actors Danny Glover and Daryl Hannah, consumer advocate Ralph Nader, poets Alice Walker and bell hooks, activist Julia Butterfly Hill and others.
The result is the documentary film "Fierce Light: When Spirit Meets Action."
