Eight people were injured when a Palestinian terrorist, believed by security services to be a "lone wolf attacker," launched a frenzied attack on a landmark Tel Aviv nightclub filled with a thousand youths holding an end of summer party early on Monday.
Earlier in the night, Tel Aviv police district head Cmdr. Aharon Aksul held an evaluation meeting that concluded with a decision to beef up police presence outside major venues in the city, including the Haoman 17 club in the south of the city, in line with instructions from the police's Operations Branch.
Security services believe a resident of Nablus in his 20s, who cannot be named at this stage, entered Israel illegally on Sunday from the West Bank, purchased a knife, and planned to strike the club when it was filled with youths.
