Was ever a thinker so travestied as Karl Marx? asks Terry Eagleton.
Indeed, the picture of Marx that has journeyed through generations to meet the greater public is one met with an implacable unease and even frothy-mouthed hostility. Until the end of the last century, the epithet "communist!" was the gravest of insults you could pay.
But this image of Marx is simply a caricature and Terry Eagleton, once described by Martin Amis as "the sort of ideological relict who couldn't get out of bed without the dual guidance of God and Karl Marx" is his champion.
