RALEIGH - On Sept. 6, 1960, 7-year-old Bill Campbell was told by his mother to "keep your head down and count the steps," as he became the first black student to integrate all-white Murphey School.
Now, 5 1 years later, the school, which has since gone through several transformations, dedicated on Dec. 7 its renovated library the Ralph A. Campbell Jr. Library.
