Tim Bowler is a tremendously talented writer who has mastered the art of the psychological thriller completely creating wonderful reads with fascinating scenarios and impressively realised characters. Buried Thunder (1 1) is an evocation ofthat ominous threat in the aura of some woodlands and a girl, Maya, is dawn deeper and deeper into a sanity doubting seguence of events. She discovers a body amongst the trees only for it to disappear and for events to recreate themselves through different personalities. The Cry of the Wolf (90) is from Melvin Burgess and involves a hunter seeking the last English wolves. Ben gets embroiled in everything but his own encounters lead him to side with the hunted, then things get twisted in a superb piece of plotting. A great read from Andersen, £5.99, 978 1 84939 375 1.
