Virtual reality technology is a new integrated information technology in the late 20th century. It has brought change in the vocational education fields such as the complex skills training, the effect of the macro design, the micro-anatomical analysis and the dynamic simulation process .And it also has had a profound impact in the vocational education concepts, the methods of teaching content and the teaching methods .For these the Virtual reality technology has attracted the attention from the vocational institution. This paper takes the Rail traffic as the research object. Basing on the analysis of the practical problems of teaching, I designed the "locomotive virtual simulation system," and then described in detail the background of teaching software, the design tools, the design process and the design technology. According to the experiments and applications of the virtual reality technology, this paper proposed the teaching mode and the application performance in the vocational education, and also deeply analyzed the design and evaluation standards in vocational education application of virtual reality technology. Through analyses, this paper gives some advice to the virtual reality technology on how to improve performance. In order to improve the effectiveness of vocational education, it needs to reform the education, needs to build high-quality professional team, needs to design a virtual learning platform and needs to innovate a new teaching
